Let's Talk About the "F" Word.... Fitness

Did I get your attention? The "F" word some of us won't even mutter ......... Fitness. It's ok. You don't have to love every aspect of it. Believe me, I don't. However, I have grown to appreciate what it does to and for my body, and how it makes me physically and mentally feel, Now we aren't talking about becoming body builders or champion weight lifters. Of course, if that's your thing - go for it. We are talking about you taking baby steps, to get yourself off the couch and get moving!

Fitness and Exercise can be enjoyable with the right tools, resources and mindset. Running and Walking are great exercise options for you.

Staying fit isn't just about rocking those Instagram-worthy abs or running marathons (though those are pretty cool too!). It's about feeling fantastic from the inside out and living life to the fullest. Think of fitness as your friend NOT your enemy! It boosts your energy levels, sharpens your mental focus, and keeps those pesky health issues at bay. So, whether you're busting out burpees in your living room or hitting the trails for a jog, every step counts towards a healthier, happier you!

One of the coolest things about fitness is its ability to bring people together. Whether you're sweating it out in a group exercise class or spotting a friend at the gym, fitness creates bonds that are as strong as your newly toned muscles. It's like having a built-in support system cheering you on every step of the way. Plus, there's nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment when you conquer a tough workout alongside your buddies. So lace up those sneakers, grab your workout buddy, and get ready to unleash your inner fitness self!

Let's not forget the incredible impact fitness has on our overall well-being. It's like hitting the reset button on stress, anxiety, and those dreaded Monday blues. Whether it's a serene yoga session to calm the mind or an adrenaline-pumping spin class to boost your mood, fitness has a magical way of lifting your spirits and leaving you with a contagious smile. And hey, who doesn't love that post-workout glow? So, let's make fitness a priority!

Tip # 1 - Walk

Yep. Genius right?!? You wouldn't believe the simple adjustments you can make that will have a huge impact. Example: How many times have you taken the elevator up 1 floor instead of taking the stairs? Be honest. Answer out loud! Or...... you've taken the front parking spot at church or the store instead of parking in the 2nd row so that you could walk a little more? Have a dog? Take him for a nice little walk. Even if it's just 4 houses down: the point is you are training your body for more and with each "little" step, grows bigger and bigger ones.

The KEY to a great walk are the shoes on your feet. There are a ton of great walking shoes and I have researched just about all of them. The shoes I finally landed on are the On Women’s Cloud 5 Sneakers. They are lightweight and super comfortable. Like walking on air.

Socks are equally important. Look for socks that have arch support technology, seamless toe, cushioned footbed and absorbs moisture. My pick - Bombas hands down. They donate 1 item for every item purchased to help end homelessness. Also consider, ankle weights for extra strengthening.

Tip # 2 - Lift

Again, we aren't talking about becoming a world renown body builder, just simple choices that have big impacts. Think of it this way - what if you decided to lift the laundry basket full of clothes, dirty or clean, instead of dragging it across the floor? You laugh, but how many times have we done that? Dozens if we're honest. Lift the basket up and take it where it needs to go. Thousands of laundry basket lifts later, our arms will have gotten some nice muscle mass to them. Got Milk? Lift those jugs a few times a day. Want to build a fire? You lift the fire wood instead of asking the kids to. Got trash? Lift the overflowing trash bags out of the cans and take them to the outdoor trash bin. Am I making sense? Hand weights are a great starting tool. If you already have a pair, pull them out from under your bed, blow off the dust and get to lifting.

Tip # 3 -Hydrate

Nope, not talking about Dr. Pepper. Water, Water, Water! Did you know, give or take depending on age, height, weight, etc. , we need about 64 ounces of water a day? Lawd Have Mercy - that's a-lot of water. I'll have you know once you start drinking that, you'll be surprised as to how easy it is and how much better you'll feel. True story. I drink more than 64 ounces a day and no I'm not in the bathroom all day. Give it a try!

The KEY to hydration is a great water bottle. For every day, I use the Hydro Flask 40 oz.with lid and straw. For Sundays or special events, I use a glass water bottle because it's slender, compact at 18 oz. and fits easily in my bag.
